Dan Carlton

Dan Carlton

Born the ninth of ten children, Dan grew up in a small Ohio town in a unique “international” family with siblings adopted from Vietnam, Guatemala, South Korea, as well as the United States. As a result of growing up in such a large family he eats meals very quickly and then sits quietly and listens to other people talk

After giving up hopes of playing basketball overseas, Dan kicked in some doors to land in Account Planning at Fallon Minneapolis. A few years later he left the Minnesota winters behind him and headed south to North Carolina and McKinney, where he soon became the youngest VP in the company’s 40-year history.

Dan founded The PARAGRAPH Project in 2005 to provide marketers an alternative to brand strategy that is either uninspired or over-intellectualized. Quickly recognized as a leader in infusing research with creativity and developing fresh marketing approaches for clients mired in fiercely competitive industries, the services of The PARAGRAPH Project have been enlisted by clients such as Target, Starbucks, Best Buy, Pabst Brewing, and American Airlines.

Dan has become one of the most decorated brand strategists of recent years winning a shelf full of EFFIEs and a Gold Account Planning Award from the AAAA. He also takes great pride in having helped shape the emerging landscape of marketing by advising curriculum development at the University of North Carolina and teaching brand strategy at ad schools across the country.
